Feel well:Live Happy.  I ensure that EVERYbody can access yoga, respecting REAL people have wear and tear in the way I teach.  Whether your are looking at yoga for yourself to ensure healthy ageing, or your parents or elder friends we all want to enjoy good health.  Yoga can make significant contributions to a healthy lifestyle. "What we do up stream has down stream consequences for our health at 60 years+" Dr Rangan Chatterjee

RMY specialises in midlife yoga and meditation for evergreen health.  This yoga is suitable for ANYone wishing to age well and build from the condition they are in currently.  Interesting sequences of subtle poses are organised around breathing instruction.

Gradual and incremental repetition, changes of pace and intensity help rebuild the muscle mass and bone density lost from age 45 onwards.   Classes help future proof your strength reserves and encourage confident balance, making you feel and move 'younger'.

The asymmetric positions are part of gentle transitions. Props and chairs are often used to provide variety and ease of access.

'Ageing' is the evidence of movement habits and lifestyle across decades it is a process not a static condidtion; yogawellness is the 'how to' rediscover the former more vital version of yourself .

Whether you're a beginner or returner classes are open to all and all are welcome. Enrolled students never miss out.  Make up classes online or in a recorded format to work on at home.

Commiting to a regular practice builds results.  Group sessions are scientifically proven to be more effective than a solitary practice.

Yoga is an ideal intervention if you have stiff joints, are feeling 'lack lustre'' sleeping poorly and your metablism is out of sorts.

Classes reinforce the foundations of safely aligned movement and breathing.

Students are signposted in how to assess their own current capability and work honestly within their range of movement.

 Class Structure and theme ...

Expect to see special 'foot treatment' used in every class.  Care is given to understanding how flexible feet affect the rest of the body.

I encourage responsive feet because this aids balance and nurtures healthy joints eg ankle, knee and hip and a supportive flexible spine.  By rolling each foot over a small physio ball for a mini myofascial self-massage in the warm-up we build this chain of strength and flexibility.

Classes work on a theme across a 6-8 week course.  Simple standing, seated and floor poses or 'asanas' are carefully woven to bring focus to the themed sequences. Great care is taken to ensure safe transitions between symetrical and asymetrical positions such as any twists and sidebends.  Consideration is given to varying the intensity and work rate with an emphasis on personal pace.

Allowing recovery 'pauses' and understanding how and why the movement benefits us is a key element of instruction.  The yoga 'nidra' or relaxation at the close every of class except the early Express Yoga stretch session is part of embedding the practice and leaves you feeling calm, stretched and revived.

Seated Yoga to strengthen your body and build robust mobility

75 minute practices in and around a chair !

This class is particulary dear to my heart addressing the impacts of time and gravity on the body in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Sitting down... and getting up again will never be the same again.

Discover how working with chairs is actually no easy option. Using a chair with a firm seat is an ideal place from which to explore movement, posture, breathing, balance and co-ordination. Work at your own pace to access simple yet hightly effective movement sequences.

Practical tips on why and where sedentary lifestyle impacts upon posture.  Actionable steps you can take to include in the daily life.

Whether craftingat a workbench, in the car, in the garden, eating a meal, on the computer, in a  virtual meeting or while you watch TV yoga can help!

Seated yoga uses mats, props (improvised or bought), chairs and a gentle sense of humour.

Tuesday morning class,Yoga + a Chair and Seated yoga are reasonably interchangeable but please have a word with Joanna to arrange !

Micro retreats - Sunday Yoga

Candle lit and quiet a floor based session using lots of props with an extended relaxation element and closing tea ceremony.  A class with few poses, but huge impact.

Particular attention is paid to breathing and passive stretching.

Restorative yoga is an effective therapeutic remedy for those coping with dis-ease, sleep deprivation, anxiety or the stresses and strain of a modern life.  In other words suitable for everyone.

Give way to gravity, restorative yoga soothes the body and carefully coaxes stillness so wer rellearn how to become less hectic.

You will be supported comfortably in each of the prone, supine or seated poses for aproximately 5-8 minutes by the props not your own effort.

Retreat work particularly well alongside Sit & Still and are recommended for asthma relief, insomnia, anxiety and low mood, IBS and other metabolic imbalances.
